En solidarité avec la lutte du peuple palestinien contre l’apartheid, les crimes de guerre et l’odieuse injustice qu’il subit, nous sommes plusieurs groupes et associations à vous adresser nos remerciements pour votre décision courageuse de ne pas vous produire au Festival international des Femmes à Holon. Nous vous remercions aussi pour votre déclaration de soutien au Boycott culturel demandé par la société civile palestinienne.
Le Festival de Holon financé par l’État d’Israël prétend encourager l’autonomie des femmes, cependant les palestiniennes en sont exclues, cela s’appelle autonomie sélective.
Votre décision audacieuse de refuser de vous produire en Israël exprime votre respect et votre profonde sensibilité vis à vis des femmes palestiniennes, c’est un exemple pour d’autres femmes à faire front contre l’injustice. Vous avez subi une forte pression de la part des organisateurs du Festival de Holon, vous avez fait preuve d’une courageuse fermeté en suivant l’appel de la campagne BDS et en annulant votre spectacle à court terme.
Il n’est pas rare de voir des artistes devenir la cible d’accusations mensongères, de menaces et de critiques infondées de la part des indéfectibles partisans des crimes israéliens, pour avoir choisi cette attitude. Nous restons solidaires et vous souhaitons de garder toute votre fermeté face aux pressions, sachez que vous êtes entourée du soutien de tous ceux qui croient en la justice, les droits de l’homme et la liberté, nous respectons et saluons votre décision. Vous venez de rejoindre la liste qui augmente chaque jour des artistes de conscience qui refusent de jouer dans la Sun City d’aujourd’hui, et ensemble nous vous en remercions.

Dear Cassandra Wilson,
As different groups working in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle against apartheid, war crimes and terrible injustices perpetrated against them by Israel, we applaud you for your courageous decision not to play for the Holon International Women’s Festival. Thank you for your statement in support of the cultural boycott of Israel as called for by Palestinian civil society.
Although the government-funded Holon festival claimed to empower women, since Palestinian women were excluded, this was selective empowerment. Your brave decision to refrain from performing in Israel showed respect and deep compassion for Palestinian women and your action is an inspiration for other women to stand up against injustice. We thank you for enduring the intense pressure to perform for the Holon festival. You showed great strength by seeking information about the BDS campaign and deciding to cancel so close to your scheduled performance.
It is not uncommon for an artist who takes such a stand to be on the receiving end of false accusations, threats, and unfounded criticism by apologists for Israeli crimes. In solidarity, we hope that you remain strong in the face of such pressure and recognise there is enormous support for you and respect for your decision among those who embrace justice, human rights and freedom. You have joined a growing list of artists of conscience who have refused to play in today’s Sun City and we all express our gratitude to you.
